Water

WATER (Ava Yazad Ardavisur)

Water is the fundamental necessity of life for most of the living organisms. Water covers 71% of the Earth's surface, but only 2.5% of this water is fresh water. Surprisingly, 88% of this fresh water is in ice format / underground, so less than 0.3% of all freshwater is in rivers, lakes, and in the atmosphere. From this extremely limited availability of water supply, approximately 70% of this freshwater used by humans goes to agriculture. This makes the picture very clear, on how scarce is its supply and how important is to save it, for future generations.

Civilization has historically flourished around rivers and major waterways. Mesopotamia, the so-called cradle of civilization, was situated between the major rivers Tigris and Euphrates. The ancient society of the Egyptians depended entirely upon the river Nile. Rome was also founded on the banks of the Italian river Tiber.

Water is considered as a universal purifier in almost all the religions that prevails on earth. Faiths that incorporate ritual washing include Persian Aryanism, Christianity, Bharatiya Aryanism / Hinduism, Islam, Judaism, Shinto, Taoism, Wicca and many more.

Immersion of a person in water is a central sacrament of Christianity, what is called as “Baptism”. It is also a part of the practice of other religions, including in Islam what is called as “Ghusl”, named as “Mikvah” in Judaism, “Amrit Sanskar” in Sikhism and the list continues.

Furthermore, a ritual bath in pure water is performed for the dead in many religions including Bharatiya Aryanism, Persian Aryanism, Islam and Judaism.

In Islam, the five daily prayers can be done in most cases only after completing washing certain parts of the body using clean water, unless the water is unavailable. Similar practice is seen in Persian Aryanism and its Bharatiya counterpart too. In Shinto religion, water is used in almost all rituals to cleanse a person or a religious area.

Even while performing the ceremony of “Arghya” towards Suryadev / Sun, water is poured on a Holy Basel (Tulsi) plant, in such a way that the flow of water acts as a “goggles / protective screen” for clear vision, against the bright sunlight. Well, Tulsi plant is hardly found in any house today, but at least one can pour it on any other plant / soil, rather than pouring on road / concrete floor.

Ocassionally we come across Aryans visiting rivers and offering their prayers to Sarita (in Bharatiya Aryanism) / Anahita (in Persian Aryanism), it's our utmost duty to respect the mother nature and it's blessings on mankind. Unless we don't respect them, we will never understand their critical role on our survival, thanking Almighty and his valuable offerings to mankind, is the only way to sustain our future.

Few decades back, one never presumed that water will be sold one day, but the fact prevails today on a large scale. A special report issued in November 2009, states that by 2025 more than half of the world population will be facing water-based vulnerability and by 2030, even in some developing regions of the world, water demand will exceed supply by 50%. We are already feeling the pinch by now.

Water harvesting has become an inevitable need of the hour, whereby each and every avenue of water needs to be covered under it. Rainwater harvesting is the accumulation and deposition of rainwater for reuse on-site, rather than allowing it to run off. Rainwater can be collected from roofs / terraces of buildings and redirected to a deep pit, well, shaft, or borehole. These rain harvested waters can be used for gardens, livestock, irrigation and other domestic use with proper treatment.

In today’s world, most of the residential and office building are flooded with huge air conditioners that release lot of water as its byproduct. Single 2 ton AC releases a full bucket of water in an 8 hours working day. So if these AC water outlets are connected to some ground soil / plant, it will be one of the best water harvesting tools.
