TULSI
TULSI - “Taerae Aangan Ki”
Tulsi with its scientific name “Ocimum Sanctum” is also called HOLY
BASIL because of its religious and spiritual significance in the Bharatvarsh
culture. It is a perennial that grows in all seasons, as a branched shrub that
may reach up to a height of 60 cm, bearing fragrant leaves and furry branched
stems that may have tiny white to purple flowers.
Tulsi plant is regarded as the “QUEEN OF HERBS” or “MOTHER
MEDICINE OF NATURE” in Ayurveda because of its various health benefits. Tulsi is
regarded as an “adaptogen”, as it’s a natural substance that helps the body
adapt to various stressors. Tulsi is used in various forms such as dried,
fresh, powdered, essential oil and herbal tea.
Tulsi has a special place in Bharatiya hearts, whereby it’s
classified with names of holy deities:

Bright green leaved Tulsi is called RAM TULSI, having a
clove-like fragrance, containing eugenol and has a mellow flavour.

Purplish green leaved Tulsi is called KRISHNA TULSI, having
taste of pepper, ideally used in curing infections such as throat infections,
respiratory problems, earaches and skin diseases. The oil from Krishna Tulsi is
also used as ear drops.

Light green leaved Tulsi is called VANA TULSI, having lemony
aroma and flavour, widely used in form of tea, for increasing physical &
mental endurance and adding more oxygen & nutrients in bloodstream
Tulsi is proven to be the safest on skin and its benefits are
massive, as this wonder herb is used to treat acne, blemishes, skin infections,
lighten dark spots, improve skin texture, tighten skin pores and imparts a
beautiful glow.
Tulsi increases the body's levels of anti-oxidant molecules such
as glutathione and enhances the activity of anti-oxidant enzymes, such as
superoxide dismutase and catalase, which acts as a major booster in brightening

Due to its antioxidant properties, Tulsi retards aging process,
removing wrinkles, spots, scars, dark circles and marks. It also acts as an
active reliever of irritation and itching caused by bug bites.
Tulsi leaves are rich in vitamins A, C and K and minerals like
calcium, magnesium, zinc, phosphorus, iron and potassium. It also has a good
amount of protein and fibre.
